MOUNT Barker vegetable grower Scott Samwell has been named the Ausveg SA and grower of the year for his work at Eastbrook Farms and commitment to the industry.
Announced last week in Adelaide, Mr Samwell, who grows brussel sprouts, was one of six award recipients acknowledged for their contributions to the states vegetable and horticulture industry at the Ausveg SA and William Buck vegetable industry awards for excellence.
Ausveg SA state manager Jordan Brooke-Barnett congratulated the the award winners and the contribution to the state’s economy.
“The awards are an opportunity to recognise the growers, researchers and other industry members who are dedicated to their jobs,” he said.
The young grower of the year award went to Daniel Quattrocchi, Monika’s Organics, Golden Grove, while Sue Pederick, SARDI, was awarded Women in Horticulture award.
James Altmann, Biological Services received the industry impact award and Angelica Camerin, IPM Technologies, was awarded researcher of the year.
The SA winners will be nominated in their respective categories for the National Awards for Excellence, to be held during the Hort Connections industry conference in Brisbane in June.
