Maxwelton Races is one of the great social occasions as they come from all parts to Maxi, 50km west of Richmond for a great day out.
A race meeting that was on its last legs a few years ago has bounced back to become one of the must dos on the North Queensland social calendar.
Last year stewards abandoned the meet at the last moment – though crowds still flocked to the course of a day of fun, foot races and tug-of-war.
This year president Bill Needham said the wet weather had helped plug up some of the holes in the course though more work had to be done ongoing.
Mr Needham also entertained on the trumpet before and after each race, announcing the horses in the ring and then correct weight after the races.
