NEW SOUTH Wales based Wynyard stud has topped the 2018 Naracoorte Shorthorn Bull Sale at $12,000 with an eye-appealing sire packed with performance.
The 23 month-old, offered by Peter and Christine Mills, Finley, weighed 970 kilograms but also had plenty of softness with 19mm rump fat and 12mm rib fat, as well as an eye muscle area of 127 square centimetres.
The Lot 15, Wynyard Marley M13, was an AI bred son of Belmore Osh Kosh E190.
It was bought by staunch supporters, the Gould family, Lucindale, who target the feeder steer market
“We were looking for moderate framed bulls with more beef and there is plenty of it here,” David Gould said of the sale topper.
The multivendor sale held at the Pathfinder complex, near Naracoorte, attracted one of the largest crowds in recent years, including 36 registered bidders.
In the breakdown, eight SA, Vic and NSW studs sold 32 of 39 bulls for a $6250 average.
Elders studstock manager and auctioneer Tony Wetherall praised the presentation from all vendors.
The line-up was a great example of the “modern Shorthorn” with plenty of growth and muscle.
“People were selective on the quality and many buyers stuck to specific studs they knew,” he said.
