Cover cropping, companion cropping, biological farming, and reducing synthetic fertiliser and herbicide use were topics explored at the 20th annual SANTFA conference held at Tanunda last week.
Guests heard from various experts in the fields including WA grower Nick Kelly, NSW grower Matt McKinley, SA grower Tom Robinson, and SANTFA research and development manager Greg Butler.
Special guest speaker Jill Clapperton – co-founder and principal scientist for Rhizoterra Inc., USA – brought her expertise on creating and managing healthy productive soils through crop rotation and cover crops by looking at soil and plant biology.
The conference took a different turn with speaker Nick Shady, Vic, talking about surviving the pressures of farming and how to deal with mental health and suicide.
Stock Journal’s CASEY TRELOAR was there to cover the event.
