TOUGHER conditions in the cattle market were evident at the Mount Pleasant annual breeders and weaners sale on Thursday, March 1, where 350 cattle were yarded.
The top price was $2020 for seven Angus cows with seven Angus calves at-foot, sold by Alard Pastoral, Balhannah, who were dispersing their herd. The same vendor also sold eight Angus cows with CAF for $1620 and 12 at $1600.
At last year’s sale, cows with CAF topped at $2640.
Selling near the top for cows with CAF was M&AC Steinert, Eden Valley, with seven first and second-calver Angus cows with eight Angus CAF, that made $1800.
Making the same price of $1800 was GD Wicks & Son, Mount Torrens, with two Murray Grey cows with CAF.
Alard Pastoral also topped the pregnancy-tested in-calf heifer section, making to $1480 for four Angus cows, second to fourth calvers, which were PTIC to Pathfinder bulls. The same vendor also sold another six of the same at $1260.
Dopen Pty Ltd, Rockleigh, sold two Murray Grey heifers, PTIC to a Murray Grey bull, for $1460 and MG&LF Seelander, Angaston, had four Murray Grey PTIC heifers at $1300.
Steers were topped by Rosemary Wenske, Mount Torrens, with two Murray Greys at $1340.
Alard Pastoral sold eight Angus steers at $1100 and seven at $950.
Heifers were topped by Aruma Limousin, Korunye, with two apricot Limousins at $1080.
Bulls sold to $1320 for a Red Angus.
