THE outstanding genetics, data and phenotype of Maryvale Limousins again attracted interest from WA buyers at its Power in the Pedigree on-property sale at Kapunda on Wednesday.
The stud sold 7 of 15 bulls, averaging $5143 and also sold 11 of 16 females at a $5000 average.
The $10,000 top price bull was an absolute standout. Lot one, Maryvale Magnificent, weighed 842 kilograms with the highest eye muscle area and fat scans and second-highest intramuscular fat scan in the catalogue, and was bought by repeat buyers Kevin Beal, Shannalea stud, and Max Farley, Lonaker stud, both from Albany, WA.
Mr Beal said the bull was a real stud sire with excellent balance and structure that was very long and deep, while displaying softness and a quiet temperament. He said Magnificent had outstanding estimated breeding values and would bring outcross genetics to the the WA studs’ breeding herds.
Mr Beal bought Maryvale Hammertime four years ago as top price bull of that sale. Hammertime has bred well, with semen sales across the country and sons and daughters selling at this sale.
Top price female was a very maternal Hammertime daughter bought for $10,500 by Chris Meade, Pelican Rise stud, Colac, Vic. Mr Meade was losing bidder on the top price female at the 2017 Maryvale sale and was determined to secure Maryvale Lipton L575 for its balanced figures, excellent growth, structure and softness.
Stephen and Robyn Vivian bought three quality females to $6000, averaging $4666, for their Knockando stud near Murray Bridge.
Buyer of the top price bull and female from the 2017 sale, Kevin Nettleton, Unison stud, Boyanup, WA, returned to secure a classy TMF Westwood mated heifer for $5500.
Maryvale principal Matt Vogt is a strong believer in the Limousin breed for its explosive growth, ability to market at all ages, and ability to finish on grass or grain. Limousins’ ability to turn grass into beef gives their clients strong returns in the commercial beef industry.
Mr Vogt said it was pleasing to see the top end females – offering different genetics through AI sires being used – sell to clients across Australia.
Landmark auctioneer Leo Redden said buyers had the opportunity to secure balanced, high-end, maternal genetics at very affordable prices. He said attracting buyers from WA, the Yorke Peninsula, South East and Vic showed clients had confidence in the stud’s breeding program.
Landmark Beaton Agencies conducted the sale.
