AGRONOMISTS and farmers from SA and interstate flocked to the GRDC grains research update in Adelaide on Tuesday, February 20.
Keynote speakers included Pulse Australia chairman Ron Storey, on the sector’s future, and British researcher Martin Abell, on autonomous farming.
A scientist who has been at the forefront of extending knowledge and advice to help graingrowers manage costly soil-borne diseases was also officially recognised for his efforts and achievements in communicating the outcomes of research.
Dr Alan McKay was named the recipient of the 2018 GRDC southern region Seed of Light award, which acknowledges outstanding effort in the extension of outcomes from GRDC grains research investments.
The Seed of Light award is voted upon by the GRDC Southern Regional Panel.
Dr McKay is the leader of the soil biology and molecular diagnostics group at SARDI.
Other update speakers included SARDI researchers Marg Evans and Andrew Ware and the University of Adelaide’s Christopher Preston.
