MOUNT PLEASANT
Lambs to $160
Hoggets to $110
Steers to $1220
An increased offering of sheep and lambs set the scene for a bounty of new buyers at the Mount Pleasant market on Thursday last week.
Up on the previous sale 2386 head of sheep and lambs were penned, and cattle numbers remained steady compared with the last sale at 132 head.
Landmark Fawcett’s David Schultz said lamb prices were in line with past markets and vendors possibly held onto their cattle to be sold at the coming breeders and weaner sale.
“Cows and calves, and heifers were definitely held back for the sale,” he said.
“But it is a positive that we are getting more and more stock from Murray Bridge.”
The top price of $160 was paid for 14 crossbred lambs from Trevor Kennett, Murray Bridge, while S&C Paech, Tepco, sold 27 crossbred lambs for $153. AJ&MA Baker, Cambrai, made $149 for 12 crossbreds.
There was early demand for hoggets with two crossbreds from C Guthrie, Mount Pleasant, making $110.
While three crossbred hoggets from AG&JH Bramey, Cuddlee Creek, made $101, and a draft of 13 hoggets from M Roberts, Paracombe, were sold for $89.
Mutton prices varied with 10 Merino wether lambs from NF Cordon, Monarto, making $130, while eight Merino ewes from M Fairbin, Caurnamant, made $100.
Steers topped $1220 for a Poll Hereford Red Poll cross from Chris Bond, Walker Flat, with another steer from the same vendor making $1200.
A pen of four Angus Hereford crosses from Sonntag Brothers, Mannum, also made $1200.
The next market at Mount Pleasant will be the Beef Breeder and Weaner Sale on March 1 and the regular market will be held on March 8.
