A campaign encouraging woolgrowers to donate a sample of wool to be made into the iconic ‘Baggy Green’ caps worn by Australia’s test cricketers is amassing a big score.
More than 100 donations have been received from across Australia, including Barossa woolgrower Grant Burge, Tanunda.
He has pledged a bale from his flock of 8000 Merinos at the next six-monthly shearing.
The avid cricket fan, who sponsored the SA Cricket Association for more than 20 years under his former Grant Burge Wines label, says Flock to the Baggy Green is a great initiative.
“Wool is my business and cricket is my passion so I was happy to support it, ” he said.
“Most of the Australian population are cricket lovers and here in Australia we produce some of the best wool, so it brings two icons together.”
The donated wool will be processed into woven fabric to be donated to Cricket Australia next summer.
Woolgrowers have until March 30 to participate.
