STRATHALBYN once again yarded a strong run of cattle from local and Kangaroo Island vendors, with steer prices topping at $1265 on Friday.
Minnawarra RL Willing, Parawa, achieved the top steer price for 12 March-drop Angus steers.
A total of 1100 head were yarded and Landmark Strathalbyn auctioneer Bradley Walker said the prices were above what agents had anticipated.
“The prices were better than we may have thought, but on par to the South East prices,” he said.
“People have sold their heavy cattle out and are buying back in.”
Elders Strathalbyn branch manager Danny Reynolds said steers in generally good condition averaged about $3.20 a kilogram to $3.23/kg, with heifers fully firm in the $2.90/kg to $3/kg range.
“The buying gallery was well supported by local Adelaide Hills agents in particular, with considerable interest also from the Upper South East and Thomas Foods International,” he said.
