THE complete flock dispersal of Trevor and Andrea Thomas, Pine Hill, was one of the major features at the Bordertown off-shears sale on Wednesday last week.
More than a third of the 3000-head yarding came in from the Thomases.
They had some great results with their wool tests this year, with their hoggets’ fleece averaging 18.4 micron and yielding 74.3 per cent, the ewes averaged 19.9M with 73pc yield and their lambs averaged 17.7M, with 69.3pc yield.
Kicking off the sale was 231 young ewes from the couple, with the pen of Ridgway Advance-bloods, October-shorn, selling for $206.
A line of 166 of their 2.5-year-old ewes sold for $194 to Landmark Bordertown, while 175 of their 3.5yo ewes made $188, knocked down to Elders Bordertown.
The couple’s pen of 165, 4.5yo ewes sold for $178 to Landmark Bordertown, a line of 108, 5.5yo ewes made $154, knocked down to Spence Dix & Co Keith and 55 of their 6.5yo ewes made $118, sold to Elders Naracoorte.
Making the top price at the auction was CD Baker & Son, Lucindale, with 148 young ewes, Gum Hill-bld, October-shorn, selling for $229 to Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen Kingston.
The highest price was $9 back on the October sale’s high, but up $8 on the sale held at the same time last year.
Also selling young ewes were IK Day, Padthaway, with 106 July-shorn Chain Pump-blds making $203 to Elders Keith.
TR Truscott, Naracoorte, sold 237 October-shorn, Moorundie Park-blds for $181 to Landmark Kingston.
Innisfallen, Cannawigara, sold 23 October-shorn, Sohnic-bld young ewes for $180 to Southern Australian Livestock Bordertown.
AJ Nankivell, Bordertown, sold 47, 2.5-3.5yo ewes for $100 to Elders Naracoorte, along with 55 October-shorn, Ridgway Advance-blds for $114 to Elders Naracoorte.
JL&HL Orton, Padthaway, had 225 August-shorn, Collinsville-bld, April-May 2013/2014-drop, ewes sell for $150 to Thomas DeGaris & Clarkson Penola.
Selling 35 Dohne ewes, April-May 2012-drop, October-shorn for $142 to Kyle Livestock agent Stuart Kyle, Kaniva, Vic, was DL&L Schnieder, Western Flat.
Other 5.5yo ewe sellers were KS Keller & Co, Western Flat, with 161 September-shorn, Hamilton Run-blds, that made $138 sold to SAL Bordertown.
GS Keatley, Willalooka, sold 91 September-shorn, Collinsville-bld, June-July 2012-drops for $145 to Spence Dix & Co, account Irlam, while Almora sold 424 September-shorn, Mernowie-bld, April/May 2012-drops at $85 to Elders Bordertown.
There was only one pen of ewe lambs, and it had strong competition. TR&AL Thomas sold 301 October-shorn April/May 2017-drops for $161.
Only one pen of wethers was yarded, with 265 from TR&AL Thomas making $115.
