THERE was “animated” action in the sheep and lamb job at the latest Mount Pleasant market, held on Thursday last week.
With the school holidays in full swing, crowd numbers were up on the previous sale, while prices also jumped.
Landmark Fawcett Mount Pleasant principal Colin Fawcett said the run of lambs available were keenly sought after.
“The lamb sale was very strong to say the least, very animated,” he said.
The top price of $190 was paid for a pen of six lambs from Tim Fairey, Truro.
JI&FA Henschke, Mount Pleasant, sold 19 lambs at $184. M Cammell, Mount Barker, offered 26 lambs, which sold at $182.
Malcolm Mitchell, Eden Valley, sold a range of lambs, with the top draft of 26 lambs at $179, the seconds at $150 and the smallest still making $142.
There was also good interest in the hoggets, with a run of 25 from Lock Family Trust, Monarto, reaching $130. GB&WR Schenke, Brinkley, had seven hoggets at $120.
The best of the ewe offering was a run of 15, from A Horstmann, Millandilla.
Across in the cattle pen, Mr Fawcett said the prices were “fully firm” on the previous sale.
S&J Jackson, Mount Torrens, sold seven Angus cows with calves at-foot at $1820.
SA Richardson, Mount Torrens sold a Murray Grey cow and CAF at $1180. The same vendor also offered five Murray Grey cows, which sold at $1300.
The best of the steers was from Hearnden Farm, Keyneton, for a Limousin steer at $1440.
WA&MD Seeliger, Eden Valley, sold four Murray Grey vealer heifers to $1040.
The next Mount Pleasant market will be held on October 29.
