Crossbred lambs to $118
WETHERS and crossbred lambs made up the majority of the yarding at the Jamestown sale on Thursday last week.
Landmark Jamestown agent Shannon Jaeschke said there was very strong competition on wethers and crossbreds.
“Young ewes and breeding ewes were firm to slightly cheaper, but the quality wasn’t as good as the September sale,” he said.
Elders Jamestown livestock manager Jack Coleman said lamb buyers had plenty of quality stock to compete on.
“There were more local buyers competing at this market, and a few from the South East,” he said.
Landmark Balaklava bought the top price wethers at $112, for 106 woolly Babirra-bloods from RD&C Black, Caltowie. Not far behind on $111 was AC&H Michaels, Quorn, with 238 woolly Leahcim-blds.
AC Jacka & Son, Jamestown, sold 500 woolly Gum Hill-blds at $109, with their second line of 370 making $104.
RJ&AJ Bury, Wilmington, sold the tops of the shorn wethers at $110, with 163 Jaburee-blds. GK,JL&JK Noll, Wilmington, had 231 Springvale North-blds at $108, AC&MT Kuerschner, Orroroo, had 501 Springvale North-blds make $107, while Laskey Farming Trust, Orroroo, sold 275 Flairdale-blds for $105.
Upalinna, Hawker, sold the tops of the older wethers, with 300 June/July 2016-drops, Moorundie Park-bld, making $110.
Two lines of crossbred lambs made the top price of $118. Long Valley Props, Wilmington, sold 230 woolly White Suffolk-Merino lambs at $118 to Hill Livestock, while PN&KH Fielding, Yongala, sold 129 woolly White Suffolk-SAMM lambs for the same price to Landmark Balaklava.
DW&DM Williams, Orroroo, sold 600 Boolerview/Jaburee-blds, with the tops making to $115 and JW,JT&BJ Taylor, Melrose, had 258 woolly crossbred lambs at $113. Burge Estate, Tanunda, sold 268 Ashmore/Mernowie-blds at $110 and Schmidt Family Trust, Melrose, had 570 woolly White Suffolk-crosses top at $108.
The next Jamestown auction is a feature ewe sale on Thursday, October 19, with a capacity yarding of close to 30,000 expected.
