CRYSTAL BROOK
Yarding: 10,000
Young ewes to $222
New-season lambs to $110
SALES at the new Combined Independent Agents Association yards at Crystal Brook kicked off solidly on Wednesday last week, with young ewes selling to $222.
Despite trying, hot and dusty conditions, competition was strong with buyers from the West Coast, South East of SA and Ouyen, Vic, as well as local competition.
CIAA director Wayne Hall was happy with how the first auction went.
“We didn’t have over-the-top expectations; we just wanted a good, solid sale and it was,” he said.
“Comments from vendors have been good since the sale and the buyers were happy with the quality and prices. It was one of those sales where vendors, buyers and agents went away happy, and it builds a great platform for future sales.”
Mr Hall said the next sale was likely to be held in mid-November, as he was already fielding calls the day after the sale to book sheep in.
The sale kicked off with a pen of 42 charity crossbred lambs donated by Andrew, Pat and Nick Greig, Crystal Brook, selling for $300 to JBS and Midfield. This raised almost $13,000 for Lifeline.
“We’re extremely grateful to local feedlotters, the Greig family, whose land the new saleyards have been developed on, who wholeheartedly got behind the initiative and had no hesitation in offering the first pen,” Mr Hall said.
New-season crossbred lambs in ultra-light to lightweight condition sold to good competition from the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula.
