THE state’s beef cattle studs have slightly more than a week to be part of Stock Journal's inaugural Beef Week.
The masthead has been a strong supporter and sponsor of the annual field days since it began more than 40 years ago.
But in a change driven by the state’s stud breeders, it has taken on the running of the event from SA Beef from 2018.
Stock Journal’s Beef Week will kick off in the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula on Friday, February 2, moving to the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula on Sunday, February 4.
Studs in the Lower South East will throw open their gates on Monday, February 5 followed by the Upper SE on Tuesday, February 6.
Fairfax Agricultural Media has extensive experience conducting stud beef weeks, with Stock Journal’s sister publications The Land and Queensland Country Life both hosting successful field days in NSW and Qld.
Stock Journal studstock manager Mark Scown says entries have been flowing in and he is excited to see several new studs, as well as the return of a couple of others, in registrations so far.
“We are very proud to partner with our stud breeders and present the field days to the livestock industry, enabling them to showcase their breeding herds and upcoming sale animals,” he said.
Mr Scown says participating studs will continue to enjoy excellent coverage through Stock Journal’s print and online platforms and social media presence.
For the first time, the preview booklet, containing stud profiles and advertising, will be inserted into both Stock Journal and Stock & Land. This will mean 20,000 copies are distributed across the two states.
“The feedback is everyone is excited and looking forward to it being a great event for all involved,” he said.
“We have also had strong interest from commercial ag businesses keen to partner with us.”
Stock Journal’s staff will again be out and about across the state visiting every participating stud.
Poll Hereford breeder Andrew Bennett, Bendulla stud, Mundulla, is pleased the concept, which has been an enduring success, will continue to offer the same coverage.
“For us it is the best opportunity to promote our genetics and our bulls coming up for sale in the next month after the field days,” he said.
“It is a chance to catch up with both our clients and potential clients, with visitors from several states and the pastoral areas.”
In 2018, Bendulla’s fellow Diamond sale vendors, Wrattenbullie and Roeston Park studs, will display bulls at Bendulla for the first time.
Entries close October 6.
