“BREEDING rams to sell them”, Boolerview stud principal Graham McCallum was pleased to achieve a total clearance at his Booleroo Centre ram sale on Monday, and increase his sale average at the same time.
Mr McCallum offered 54 White Suffolk rams to 14 registered buyers, mostly return clients, which pushed prices to a top of $1300 and an average of $913.
“We are very happy with the clearance – a few less mouths to feed,” he said.
The top price ram sold to CA Brooks & Sons, Orroroo, for a June 2016-drop with Carcase Plus Index of 180.6 and fat cover of -0.6.
The Brookses also bought another ram at $1150.
The second-highest price ram at $1250 sold to PG McCallum, Naracoorte, who bought five averaging $1210.
The top June 2016-drop ram had CP Index of 191 and fat cover of -0.1.
Don Williams, Carrieton, was a volume buyer with 13 rams, along with GA&MP Chapman, Orroroo, with six averaging $850 and ME Kitschke & Sons, Jamestown, who took six rams averaging $942.
The sale was conducted by Dean Paul of Landmark Melrose, with Don Cullen as auctioneer.
Mr Paul said the rams all presented in a very good order – stretchy with good length and width – with good figures.
“There was very good support from repeat buyers, all willing to pay similar prices,” he said.
