TUESDAY marked 35 years of the Hart Field Day providing cutting-edge research extension to help farmers improve their production systems.
Ideal weather helped draw 600 farmers and industry professionals to the event.
Hart Field Site Group chairman Damian Sommerville had received positive comments on the quality of the day’s speakers, which included Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research scientist Kelly Turkington, who warned farmers about the inherent risk of short crop rotations, and CSIRO farming systems agronomist John Kirkegaard, who talked about canola management.
The site was looking good after solid late July/August rainfall improved the season in the region.
“We’re on-track for a close to average year, if we can get a kind spring,” Mr Sommerville said.
