SPEED limits on eight regional roads across the state will be cut from 110 kilometres an hour to 100km/hr in a bid to reduce crashes and accidents.
The announcement comes following an alarming spike in road deaths in recent months and lowering the speed limit is just one of a number of strategies the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure is initiating to reduce deaths and injuries on the state's roads.
A department spokesperson said rather than taking a blanket approach to reducing rural speed limits across the state as initially proposed, speed reductions were determined on those roads with the worst crash history (excluding major traffic and freight routes).
The roads include:
- Andamooka to Olympic Dam (Andamooka Road)
- Cleve to Kimba (Cleve Road)
- Crystal Brook to Gulnare (Goyder Highway)
- Mt Gambier to Port MacDonnell (Riddoch Highway)
- Ngarkat Highway (Pinnaroo to Bordertown)
- Loxton to Pinnaroo (Browns Well highway)
- Southern Ports Highway to Callendale (Clay Wells Road)
- Carpenter Rocks to Mt Gambier (Carpenter Rocks Road)
