CEDUNA based Maramville stud was one of the SA on-property sales calendar’s big improvers with a more than $500 lift in average.
At their 28th annual sale on Wednesday last week, Mark and Amanda Hoffrichter enjoyed a total clearance of 70 Poll Merino rams for a $2070 average.
They also had success with their first offering of White Suffolks, with all eight selling to $1400 and averaging $1137.
The $4600 top priced ram – an 18.6 micron Poll Merino weighing 106 kilograms – sold to Greg and Nathan Warmington, Jevelara, Penong.
It was one of 10 rams they bought.
Other major buyers included RedAnn Farms who took home seven Poll Merino rams to $2100 and three White Suffolks to $1400.
BroAnn Trust bought six rams to $3400 and T Hoffrichter secured five rams to $4400 and a White Suffolk ram at $1200.
Mr Hoffrichter said the sale was “well beyond his expectations.”
“High wool and meat prices have given wool producers confidence in spending more money on better rams and to perhaps put more money back into the sheep side of the business,” he said.
“It was a great result in a tough season with winter rainfall being the driest for several years.”
Landmark auctioneer Gordon Wood said there was “huge local support” with buyers bidding freely at rates equal to other more prominent sales.
“They are massive framed sheep which are easy care and well-suited to the Upper EP,” he said.
“The sheep as with most on the north west EP have struggled season wise as far as condition goes but being paddock run with no supplementary feeding they will really go ahead from here.”
