MORLEY Poll Merino stud set a record average of $2022 at its 19th annual on-property sale at Cleve on Friday, August 18.
The average was $134 up on last year.
Morley also achieved full clearance, with 59 out of 60 rams sold during the auction, and the final sire snapped up straight after the sale.
The top price ram at $3800 went to return client Shannan Larwood, Buckleboo, who has been buying from the stud for more than 15 years.
It weighed 98 kilograms and had 18 micron wool with 99.7 per cent comfort factor.
Mr Larwood said he liked the frame and style of the ram, as well as the fact it was a heavy wool cutter.
“I’m trying to get to six-month shearings, so I was looking for good staple length,” he said.
Mr Larwood also bought another ram at $3200.
The major volume buyer was Glenowen Pastoral Co, Cleve, with sevens rams to $2400 and an average of $1442.
Buying near the top of the catalogue was EGA Holdings, Rudall, with four rams to $3200 and an average of $2250, and ADS&JLS Major, Kimba, with four rams to $3400 and an average of $2600.
NW&AK Siviour Farming Partnership, Lock, bought four rams to $3400 and an average of $3000, AR&CP Beinke & Sons, Cowell, purchased four rams to $3000 and an average of $1975 and SC&LE Snodgrass, Ungarra, took home four rams to $3000 and an average of $2400.
The sale was conducted by Landmark and Elders, with Elders SA stud stock manager Tony Wetherall auctioneering.
“The line-up was well-presented from pen one to pen 60, with terrific growth, style and depth of body,” Mr Wetherall said.
Principal Leonie Mills said producing white, nourished wool that suited all conditions was a focus for the stud, as clients came from a wide spread of regions, including pastoral zones to high rainfall areas.
