SHEEP and lambs were in hot demand at the monthly Mount Pleasant sale on Thursday, April 6.
There were 1000 sheep and lambs yarded, along with 230 cattle.
Landmark auctioneer Colin Fawcett said sheep and lambs were very strong, and cattle were fully firm.
Angaston couple Sally Fennessy and Brian Linke made $186 for 15 crossbred lambs, which sold to JBS, while Dopen Pty Ltd, Rockleigh, sold 11 lambs at $177, also to JBS.
Terlinga Farm, Tungkillo, sold eight crossbreds to $176 to JBS and Glenunga, Moculta, sold 16 at $160, also to JBS.
Austral bought the top pen of Dorpers, with 12 at $154 from D Bennett, Birdwood.
Also selling Dorpers were J&L O’Dea, Gumeracha, with 20 at $142 and C&Y Rogers, Eden Valley, with 17 at $130.
Store lambs attracted strong prices, with D Brown Pastoral, Eden Valley, topping the section at $126 for a pen of 22.
The second highest price for store lambs was $125 for 19 from J&L O’Dea, which were knocked down to Austral, while Terlinga Farm sold 17 at $122.
The Australian Lamb Company paid the highest price for hoggets, with three at $120 from S Jackson, Mount Torrens.
Wethers made to $126 for 32 from KA&DB Frahn, Ponde, and ewes to $143 for two from Terlinga Farm, Tungkillo.
In the cattle section, the 10 heifers from SR&JJ Jackson, Mount Torrens, with their first calves-at-foot, that had been running back to an Angus bull, selling for $1500.
Cows also sold well with a black baldy from RL&KR Kroehn, Eden Valley, making the top price of of $1480 and four Angus from AT&JK Brown, Birdwood, selling for $1440, selling to Thomas Foods International.
Two Poll Hereford cows, that had been joined back to a Poll Hereford bull, and were pregnancy-tested four to five months in-calf from Gibbins Group, Mt McKenzie, made $1320, also to TFI.
Steers made to $1660 for an Angus from Paech Bros, Palmer, that sold to Princess Royal, while NO Zimmerman, Sedan, sold a Murray Grey steer for $1520.
Heifers made to $1480, with three Red Poll-crosses from CM Bond, Mannum, selling to Meat Barn. The same vendor also sold three steers at $1480 and one at $1500.
The top price for bulls was $2380 for an Angus from J Fromm, Mannum.
The best price for store cattle was $1280 for four Red Poll-crosses from AJ&SP Holt, Eden Valley.
