THE 2016 season has thrown many challenges to Mid North farmer Andrew White, Wilparina, Andrews.
Mr White started harvesting canola crops on his home block at Andrews in early December.
At the same time, the push was on to finish baling and stacking hay at his business’ Petherton property.
Mr White said this season threw almost every seasonal challenge at him, including massive damage in the super-storm that wreaked havoc across SA in September.
Wilparina suffered damage to hay, sheds, machinery and field bins.
The hay that was water damaged later caught alight.
There was also hail damage to crops a couple of weeks ago.
“We also had frost events in the second week of October, which frosted about 25 per cent of the farm,” he said.
“We cut most of it, mainly wheat and barley, for hay.”
A positive has been early canola yields, which have been more than two tonnes a hectare, with 46pc oil content.
