As much as the Western District weaner sales build on tradition and the region’s reputation for offering well-bred and reared beef weaner calves, this year’s series of sales will also offer something new.
Elders and Landmark will interface their series of three Hamilton weaner sales on the AuctionsPlus platform.
Elders Hamilton livestock branch manager Aaron Malseed said extra work involved to meet the AuctionsPlus requirement was negligible.
“We already have to gather most of the breeding, accreditation and management details for display on our sale-day pen cards and here at Hamilton the cattle in our store sales are always weighed and sold by liveweight,” Mr Malseed said.
“In reality it was only the gathering of the pre-sale photographs, some video footage and the uploading of this into the catalogue that has been extra.”
He said the fact it was the 50th anniversary of weaner sales at Hamilton encouraged them to do something special as a reward for our clients, by increasing competition to people who can not attend the sale physically.
“And what a good opportunity.”
Mr Malseed said as the country was flush with plenty of grass throughout the eastern states, buyers throughout the seaboard and beyond could bid in the Elders and Landmark sales, without the need to attend.
