Roseleigh sells to $19,000

While the sale average was back on last year, it was still a very healthy $7121.

There was also good clearance, with 33 sold out of 36 bulls offered.

The top price bull was bought by Colin Muster, his daughter Tanya Morris and her husband Dion Morris, who run an Angus, lucerne hay and lucerne seed enterprise at Mundulla, trading as CD&JL Muster Family Trust.

It was the first-time the family had bought from Roseleigh. 

Mr Muster said Roseleigh M16 was a good all-round balanced bull.

“When I came around to visit Roseleigh at Beef Week, I looked around and this bull just stood out,” he said.

The 21-month-old bull was sired by Rennylea H7 NORH7 and weighed 1000 kilograms.

The second-highest price bull was Roseleigh Magnum M50, which made $12,000.

It went to return clients Pluckrose Bros, Spalding. 

The 20mo bull was sired by Karoo D98 Dulcify G149 NENG149 and weighed 948kg.

Also buying near the top of the catalogue was last year’s highest price bidders Dunholme Proprietors, Naracoorte, buying Roseleigh M10 for $10,000.

M&L Jacob, Colac, Vic, who bought Roseleigh’s top price bull two years ago returned to buy two bulls, one for $10,000 and another for $8000.

Return buyers Black Range Partners, Keith, bought two bulls to a $9500 top and a $8500 average, while N&J Nutt, Keith, purchased two bulls to $6500 and a $5250 average.

Volume buyers were Dilbong Pastoral, Tara, Qld, who have been buying from Roseleigh for the past four years. Dilbong bought nine bulls to a top of $9000 and an average of $6888.

Another return client Waterman Rural, Melrose, bought three bulls to a $8000 top, averaging $7000.

New client Steve Withers, Springwood Station, via Wentworth, NSW, who was buying for his South East property, bought two bulls at $4000.

Roseleigh’s Mat Cowley said he was pleased with how this year’s line-up of bulls presented.

“They were born in a good year, and grew out in good year,” he said

Mr Cowley was also happy with how the sale turned out.

“The bulls are going to Qld, Vic, NSW, as well as across SA,” he said.

“They can go on to harsher climates and still do well.”

Mr Cowley said the stud was focused on producing soft, easy-doing, well-muscled cattle that were going to grow out well.

The sale was conducted jointly by Elders and Landmark, with Tony Wetherall and Richard Miller auctioneering.

Mr Wetherall said Roseleigh offered a terrific line-up of bulls.

“The evenness from the first to the last bull offered was exceptional, which shows the genetics and the program that Roseleigh has in place,” he said.

“The combination of frame, carcase, growth and muscle was really evident.”

Mr Miller said Roseleigh was producing highly profitable, high-growth cattle that were adaptable for a range of markets.

“I think it was one of the best line-ups of bulls I’ve seen Roseleigh produce,” he said.

“The progeny will go on to hit all markets, from weaners, to feed-lot cattle to the bullock market.”
