STEWART Range based JB Angus stud’s AuctionsPlus helmsman sale was a first up success, hitting a $8000 high.
The comprehensive online catalogue attracted seventeen bidders from SA and Vic, ensuring 13 of 14 grassfed bulls sold for a $4500 average.
At their inaugural field day last year stud principals Jock and Brooke Hislop sold eight of their top 10 bulls in the first half hour.
This prompted the move to a sale in 2018, giving everyone an equal opportunity.
Lot 1, an outstanding son of Silverias Conversion and out of the stud’s top embryo transfer donor female, Hidden Valley Opal, topped the sale at $8000.
JB Conversion M33 was knocked down to the Boon family, Boonarkm stud, Mount Magnificent.
The June 2016 drop weighed 912 kilograms and at scanning in early December had the second highest eye muscle area of the draft at 122 square centimetres with 15 millimetres of rib fat.
Four other bulls made $5000 each, including Lot 5 a full flush brother to the sale topper.
It sold to Kym Wedding, Naracoorte.
Mr Hislop said the helmsman sale had worked well and given buyers greater flexibility in their selections but also the convenience of not having to attend a sale.
“It allows bidders to see how the sale is trending and while it may take away the high highs it lifts the lower end,” he said.
JB Angus will offer 25 bulls for sale in 2019 .
