MOUNT PLEASANT
Yarding: 1800 sheep, 120 cattle
Sheep to $168
Cattle to $1480
ADELAIDE Hills butchers and store buyers were the main bidders at a “reasonably solid” sale at Mount Pleasant on Thursday.
Landmark Fawcett principal Colin Fawcett said there were mixed qualities of sheep, mostly due to the amount of feed available, and cattle numbers and prices were slightly down on previous sales, which was in line with other sales across the state.“People who have had good feed have fed the lambs, and they have come up reasonably well,” he said.
“There isn’t really fattening feed out there, unless they have supplementary feed.”
A total of 1800 sheep and 120 cattle were yarded with sheep reaching $168 and cattle hitting $1400.
Topping the sheep section was AK&SA Day, Oakbank, who sold six crossbred lambs for $168.
Also in the lamb section Semmler Brothers, Lyndoch, sold 16 crossbreds for $152, while JB&SA Conte, Birdwood, offered eight crossbreds, which were sold for $142.
There were a number of vendors yarding hoggets, but H&P Folletta’s, Mount Pleasant, offering of 11 crossbred hoggets were auctioned for $124.
Eden Valley Estate, Springton, yarded 37 Wiltipoll ewes, which sold for $118, while E Iuliano, Birdwood, sold 24 Merino ewes at $114.
In the cattle yards, Springhill Farm, Springton, sold one Hereford heifer which topped the cattle section at $1480.
RJ&SF Watkins, Murray Bridge, sold five Murray Grey steers at $940, while DG Carter, Eudunda, sold three Murray Grey steers, which sold up to $1280.
