MORE people in regions will have access to support as the National Disability Insurance Scheme continues to rollout across SA with the Far North, Yorke Peninsula. Mid North, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island, and the Eyre and Western regions included.
Once fully rolled out, about 32,000 South Australians will be receiving support through the NDIS, which is almost double the number of people previously receiving disability support in the state.
Funding for disability services in SA will increase to $1.5 billion a year, including an annual $723 million contribution from the state government.
Disabilities Minister Katrine Hildyard said the NDIS was already helping to improve the lives of South Australians with disability and adults under the age of 65 across another five regions can access the scheme.
“The rollout of the scheme to these five new regions will mean more South Australians will enjoy the benefits of having more choice and control over the services they need,” she said.
“More than 700,000 people have also been reached through Facebook as part of our state government’s NDIS awareness campaign, while more than 100,000 page views have been recorded on the campaign’s website.”
The implementation of the NDIS in SA has been phased.
Children with disability across the state, as well as adults under the age of 65 in some regions including northern Adelaide, the Murray and Mallee, and the Limestone Coast are already accessing the scheme.
More than 3000 people with disability, family members, job seekers, and disability service providers have attended the 20 expos conducted so far in locations such as Gawler, Mount Gambier, Kingscote, Port Augusta, Clare, Kadina, Port Lincoln, Coober Pedy, and metropolitan Adelaide.
Three more community information expos will be held in February and March.
It is expected the scheme will result in 6000 new full-time jobs created.
