STORE cattle prices were solid at the monthly Naracoorte store sale on Thursday last week.
The yarding was more than 1200 advertised, with 1655 head in.
Thomas DeGaris & Clarkson agent Darren Maney said the results were in line with other recent store sales.
“There was a great, varied selection of cattle, with something for everyone,” he said.
The sale kicked off with AG&AM Clifford, Yallum Park, Penola, offering 17 Angus, 495 kilograms, which sold for $1475 or $2.98 a kilogram to Teys Charlton. The same vendor also sold a further 10 steers, 456kg, for $1433 or $3.14/kg to Thomas Foods International.
Making the highest price for steers was NJ Frith, Frances, with five Yoho, Bendulla and Morganvale-bloods that sold for $1672 or $2.68/kg to Teys Naracoorte. Teys also bought another 17 steers from the same vendor, 576kg, for $1545 or $2.68/kg and a further 13 at 501kg for $1403 or $2.80/kg.
The top price on a kilogram basis for steers was $3.66/kg for 13 Lancaster-blds, 229kg, from SR&BL Bury, Murray Bridge, which sold for $840 to Southern Australian Livestock Mount Gambier.
Langview, Avenue Range, had the second highest on a kilogram basis, with 25 Pathfinder-Sterita Park-bld steers at 274kg that made $3.63 or $997, knocked down to Landmark Millicent. The same vendor also sold a further 26 at 302kg for $1060 or $3.51/kg.
Joyson Orchards, Loxton, sold 22 Sterita-Park-bld steers, 312kg, for $1100 or $3.52/kg.
DL&GM Chaplin, Woods Well, sold 12 Angus steers, 466kg, for $1460 or $3.13/kg to TFI, while AW Ness & KJ Murray, Kangaroo Island, had 13 Murray Grey-Simmentals, 371kg, sell for $1130 or $3.04/kg to Creek Livestock.
P Yeates, Nangwarry, had seven steers at 360kg sell for $1134 or $3.15/kg, while Clithel, Lucindale, sold six steers, 350kg, for $1087 or $3.10/kg.
Topping the heifer section was PR Gould & Co, Greenways, with 13 Sterita Park-bld Angus-Shorthorns, 550kg, that made $1441 or $2.62/kg to TFI. The same vendor also sold a further 18 at 497kg for $1310 or $2.63/kg.
Hancock Family Trust, Keith, made the highest on a kilogram basis for heifers, with 13 at 141kg, sold for $550 or $3.88/kg.
Nurrungar Pastoral Co, Cadgee, sold more than 140 heifers including 40 at 356kg that made $1120 or $3.14/kg and 24 at 399kg that sold for $1030 or $2.58/kg, while Tulara Downs, Tintinara, had 25 heifers at 309kg sell for $834 or $2.70/kg.
There were some great lines of females offered at the sale including more than 250 pregnancy tested in-calf cows from Nurrungar Pastoral Company.
Nurrungar’s cows were PTIC to JB Angus and Duck Island bulls. The top line was 15 that made $2260 and sold to Landmark Naracoorte for clients Max and Jill Williams, Lochaber.
John Chay & Co Millicent agent John Chay bought a number of the Nurrungar pens including 22 at $2040, seven at $2060 and eight at $2000.
Other buyers included Southern Australian Livestock Bordertown, with 18 at $2020, SAL Kingston, 22 at $1800 and Landmark Mount Pleasant with 15 ex-Watervalleys at $2000.
Elders Lucindale bought 13 ex-Wittalockas at $2020 and Spence Dix & Co Tintinara purchased a number of Nurrungar lines with the tops 12 at $1720.
Weerona, Keith, sold 19 mixed-age Angus cows, PTIC to Roseleigh bulls, to SAL Kingston for $1840, along with a further 30 at $1790 and 14 at $1755.
The tops of the cows with calves at-foot were 18 from Banksia Ridge Holdings, Flaxley, that sold for $2500 to Landmark Tintinara. The cows were 2014-drops and Hidden Valley-bld and had September/October CAF.
Wang Pastoral, Wangaratta, Vic, had cows and calves that had been on agistment at Naracoorte, with 19 units selling for $1840 and further 19 at $1760.
