FIRST-CROSS ewes made to $338 and ewe lambs to $254 at the annual Mount Pleasant first-cross and off-shears sale on Wednesday, November 15.
The sale-toppers were 56 October-shorn, Nyowee/Belmont-blood young ewes from father and son James and Kym Graetz, Graetz Family Trust, Keyneton. The pen was knocked down to John Kemp Livestock. The Graetz family also sold a further 30 ewes at $298 to Elders Murray Bridge.
The second highest price was $330 for 40 October-shorn, Belmont-bld, May 2016-drops from last year’s sale-toppers Tim and Kelly Brown, Keyneton. The Browns also sold a further 99 at $320 and 30 at $294.
Also making more than $300 for their young ewes were:
- MPC&SJ Brown, Keyneton, with 37 April/May 2016-drops sold to Fleurieu Livestock for $304.
- BR Eatts Pty Ltd, 95 Inverbrackie/Kamora & Netley Park-blds sold for $310 to Landmark Strathalbyn.
- Belmont Props, Springton, 25 Belmont/Bunyara-blds that sold for $302 to Landmark Strathalbyn.
- IT&LM Pitt, with 100 Paxton-blds at $302.
- B&V Skinner with 44 Inverbrackie/Bunyara-blds at $300, sold to Thomas Farms Rural.
- CS&AM Simpson, Belalie North, with 31 Gum Hill/Inverbrackie-blds at $300, sold to Elders Roseworthy.
CS&AM Simpson topped the ewe lambs with 114 at $252, sold to Landmark Strathalbyn. The same vendor also sold 94 ewe lambs at $244.
D&M&C Schulz, Cambrai, had 80 Belmont/Hilton Heath-bld ewe lambs sell for $230 to Landmark Strathalbyn.
Tim and Kelly Brown had 88 ewe lambs at $208 and 73 at $200.
Topping the wether section was S Kleeman, with 23 Mernowie-blds at $104, knocked down to Thornby.
DW Taylor Pty Ltd sold 308 Mt Alma-bld Dohne wether lambs at $100 to Landmark Murray Bridge.
Making the highest price for young ewes was IJ&FL Koch, Moculta, with 64 Bunyara-blds at $214. The same vendor also sold 65 at $202.
Also making more than $200 for their young ewes were PJ Graetz/Graetz Family Trust, with 27 Nyowee/Bunyara-blds at $208, Parkview Estate, with 34 Bradfield-blds at $209 and Sunnyvale Props, Eden Valley, with 32 Babirra-bld Dohnes at $210.
AJ&MA Baker, Cambrai, sold a line of 58, 3.5yo Ridgway-bld ewes for $208 and another line of 37 Hilton Heath-blds sold for $196.
Also offering 3.5yo ewes was Fran and Jeff Henschke, with 77 Bunyara-blds that made $160. It was the last pen of sheep to ever be offered by the couple, as their property near Mount Pleasant was recently sold after being on the market a mere eight days. It was Mr Henschke’s final sheep sale after 52 years of farming, but the couple do have cattle to be sold in the next Mount Pleasant auction.
Topping the 4.5yo section at $152 was DW Taylor Pty Ltd with 59 Mt Alma-bld 4.5yo Dohnes.
Also selling 4.5yo ewes RD,BL&RN Schulz, with 69 Hilton Heath-blds at $148, sold to Elders Murray Bridge, Yatara, with 117 Nyowee-blds at $138 and PG Higgins, with 92 at $130.
PM Burgemeister topped the 5.5yo section with 97 Gunallo-bld ewes at $148, while PJ Graetz/Graetz Family Trust, sold 36 Nyowee/Bunyara-bld 5.5yo ewes at $144.
