HEIFERS did not show quite the same increase in prices as the steers at the Mount Gambier store sale on Friday, and remained relatively unchanged on last month, but still sold to good demand from local restockers.
Heavy heifers weighing 400 kilograms-plus sold from $2.45 a kilogram to $2.74/kg; those weighing 350-400kg made $2.32-$3.04/kg, heifers from 300-350kg sold from $2.25-$3.02/kg, and lighter heifers weighing less than 300kg made $2.73-$3.07/kg.
Tommel, Heywood, Vic, sold five 12-18-month-old Pathfinder-blood Angus-cross heifers, 489kg, at $1200 or $2.45/kg to TB White, which also bought seven 12-15mo Angus heifers, 364kg, at $960 or $2.64/kg, from Nangkita, Eight Mile Creek.
OP Livestock, Mount Gambier, bought 160 heifers including five 14-16mo Angus-cross heifers, 431kg, at $1130 or $2.62/kg from C Logan, Casterton Vic; 12 Pathfinder-bld 14-16mo Angus-cross heifers, 381kg, at $1010 or $2.65/kg from Glenburnie, Heywood, Vic, and 15 Angus and Angus-cross heifers, 319kg, at $910 or $2.85/kg from RC Smith, Kingston SE.
Roseneath, Millicent, sold 14 Angus-Simmental heifers, 360kg at 10-12mo, at $1020 or $2.83/kg; 16 Angus heifers, 10-11mo, 352kg, at $1050 or $2.98/kg and 17 Angus heifers, 348kg at 10-12mo, at $1050 or $3.02/kg, all to OP Livestock for an average of $1041.
Avonlea, Strathdownie, Vic, sold 123 Boonaroo-bld Angus and Angus-cross heifers, weighing 342-390kg, for an average of $1085.
Wattle View, Strathdownie, sold 14 European Union-accredited, 10-11mo Weeran-bld Angus heifers, 328kg, at $950 or $2.90/kg to Miller Whan & John, and a second draft, 312kg, at $920 or $2.95/kg to OP Livestock.
Willowbank, Millicent, sold 20 Angus heifers, 320kg at 12mo, at $960 or $3/kg to OP Livestock, which also bought a second draft, 296kg, at $910 or $3.07/kg.
Weaver Livestock, Edenhope, Vic, sold 13 June/July 2016-drop EU Red Angus/Simmental heifers, 347kg, at $970 or $2.80/kg to Miller Whan & John.
