About 130 women traveled from all over the state to Cleve to participate in the 2017 South Australian Rural Women’s Gathering (SARWG).
The women enjoyed the festivities, with many of the ladies finding the Yeldulknie Waterfall walk and Weir tours to be fantastic.
They spent their weekend getting familiar with Cleve and its surrounds, while also learning new skills, including embroidery, artisan bread baking and matwork pilates.
The ladies were treated to an evening of good food, good wine, good music and guest speaker, Jules Allen, and then rewarded the town by bidding on auction items, with proceeds going to the Cleve Hospital.
Not even the weather could ruin the weekend, with temperatures on Friday over 30, and strong winds on Saturday and Sunday.
SARWG Cleve chairwoman Nola O’Connell said the feedback has been very positive.
“It was awesome overall, I’ve spoken to a few women, one who had been to five others, and she said this was the best one,” she said.
“At the closing ceremony, we received a standing ovation, which doesn’t normally happen, and that was really beautiful.
“The businesses I’ve spoken to have also had a great weekend.”
At the end of the event, no other town or community had put their hand up to take on next year’s gathering, which means that there may not be one.
