The inaugural Eldon Downs on-property auction at Karoonda resulted in full clearance with more than 30 buyers driving the competitive bidding on Friday last week.
In 2016 the Rudiger family purchased Leawarra White Suffolk stud at Willunga from Harry Holmes and integrated it with their own stud flock of Wheetlande, Days Whiteface and Illoura genetics to produce this year’s ram lineup.
Fifty-six lots were sold to $1800, for a sale average of $1280.
The top price ram was sold to NF EA & RM Loffler, Stonefield.
The 15-month-old weighed 130.5 kilograms and had a 47-millimetre eye muscle depth and 6.5 fat.
The Loffler's bought five rams to $1800, averaging $1480.
Elton Downs stud principal Chris Rudiger said the stud’s aim is to breed “good doing sheep with a quality constitution that will perform in any environment.”
“The top ram had a long, big frame and was clean on the points,” he said.
“We hope to increase our lineup to 120 rams for next year’s sale.”
The second highest price of $1600 was reached four times.
One lot was sold to Ralph Woolford, Murray Town.
It weighed 119kg and had 42.5EMD with 4.5 fat.
Mr Woolford secured five rams to $1600, averaging $1360.
The Wegner Brothers, Karoonda, also bought a second highest price lot that weighed 137.5kg and had 43EMD with 5.5 fat.
They bought four rams, averaging $1525.
The Willis family, Tarlee, were volume buyer and also secured one of the second highest price lots in their draft of 13 rams, averaging $1138.
J&H Rudiger, Truro, three to $1400, averaging $1300.
The sale was conducted by Spence Dix & Co with Luke Schreiber auctioneering.
