Jandebrey White Suffolks reached its highest top price figure to date in its 19th annual on-property ram sale at Maitland Showgrounds on Wednesday last week.
The Sandilands based stud reached a $1750 top price and achieved full clearance of the 80 rams offered, averaging $982.
Commended for its clean features, robust frame and muscle definition by the top price ram buying agent Leon Peacock, Quality Livestock, Burra, it was sold to HJ Michael, Hill Town, via Clare.
The Michael family also secured the second highest price ram for $1700.
Mr Peacock said it was selected for its clean points and strong stance.
“The Michael’s chased the top end of the sale because they want a quality product, and it is simple, you have to put the best in to get the best results,” he said.
“They are prime lamb operators that do not muck around with ram quality.”
Jandebrey principal Tania Stock said it was a positive sign this year’s auction attracted new buyers from the Mid North region.
“It showed our genetics are making it into the market and producers have seen the potential,” she said.
“We chase high quality stud rams at the Royal Adelaide Show Elite Stud Sheep Sale year on year because we make a point of investing in the top genetics to improve our stud going forward.
“The sheep industry is booming and buyers were attracted to the top ram’s long body with good muscling, it was a true to White Suffolk type.”
Volume buyer David McIntyre, Pt Victoria, bought 13 rams to $950.
Mr McIntyre runs 1000 Merino ewes and returned to Jandebrey this season to source genetics suited for his prime lamb operation.
“I came back after a couple of seasons away because the quality is here,” he said.
“I looked for rams with great length and depth.”
The rams will be put in with ewes in November on Mr McIntyre’s property at Parawa, Fleurieu Peninsula.
Demavista Pty Ltd, through Wardle Co, Maitland, secured eight rams to $1050, averaging $906, while Riedding Farming, through Mark Carter, Ardrossan, four to $1100, averaging $962 and four to $900, EM Rogers & Son, through Wardle Co.
The sale was conducted by Wardle & Co, Maitland.
