BUYERS flocked to the Jamestown feature ewe sale on Thursday, September 22, with a capacity yarding of 30,000 sheep and lambs.
The tops of the 1.5-year-old ewes were well up on last year’s sale, at $268 compared to $236.
Father and son Paul and David Thomas, PDL Thomas, Gulnare, sold the sale-toppers, a line of 149 North Ashrose-bloods, to Lyndoch brothers Dudley and Keith Koch.
David said his family had been selling at Jamestown for close to 15 years, and this year’s return was easily the highest price they had ever received.
The Koch brothers usually buy their ewes at Lameroo, but decided to try Jamestown this year.
Keith said there was a lot to like about the sale-toppers.
“They’re very good, plain, smooth ewes, with no wrinkles and clean faces,” he said.
GR&MA Catford, Orroroo, sold the second highest price 1.5yo ewes at $260, with 100 Greenfields-blds.
Jamestown vendors GI,BA&DG Simpson, sold 244 Bradfield-blds for $248 to Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen Penola.
NW,BA,BS&MK Groves, Booleroo Centre, sold 138, 2yo ewes, Mernowie-bld, for $256.
The tops of the older ewes was $158 for a line of 132, 5.5yo Bradfield-blds from ND Simpson, which were sold to Eudunda father and son Lyndon and Karl Zerner.
Wethers also sold well, with 224 woolly Hamilton Run-blds from Terinlee Pty Ltd, Caltowie, making $118.
Woolly sucker lambs from SC&MJ Sparks, sold for $144 for a line of 340, knocked down to Thomas Foods International.
