SPRINGVALE North Poll Merino rams have sold to $5000 and averaged $1846 in Burra today.
Stud principal Peter Stockman said it was the stud’s best-ever sale, achieving a total clearance of 100 rams and averaging more than $300 higher than last year’s sale.
The $5000 top price ram at lot 2 was the sole purchase of BR&TN Stratford, Tumby Bay, who had bought a ram of the same bloodline – Greenfields PW170 – from the Stockmans at the Adelaide Merino Ram Sale in 2012.
The 112-kilogram ram had a 21.6-micron fleece with 3.1 standard deviation, 14.4 coefficient of variation and 99.4 per cent comfort factor.
The sale’s equal second-highest price of $4000 went to volume buyer L&AO Thomas, KI, for a 111kg ram with 20.6M fleece measuring 3.1SD, 14.9CV and 99CF.
The Thomases bought 10 rams to take back to the island, averaging $2840
While the other $4000 ram came at lot 35 for an impressive 130-kilogram son of Collinsville 110021, which also measured 22.4M, 3.3SD, 14.7CV, 98.4CF and 111.1GFW.
It was bought by AD Hutchings & Co – one of five rams they took back to Minnipa averaging $2880.
