DESPITE a challenging year on the Eyre Peninsula, Teakle Hill White Suffolk stud has maintained a strong average and improved its top price by $600 on last year’s sale.
The sale top price soared to $2600, and 13 bidders registered for the sale.
From the 62 White Suffolk rams offered, 43 rams were sold during the sale, with another 14 sold privately afterwards. The top price ram was bought by Rod Hanneman, Cleve.
Boasting Glenbarian bloodlines, the twin ram weighed 108 kilograms and had a Carcase Plus Index of 182.19.
Its statistics included a 15.2 post-weaning weight, -0.5 rump fat and +0.5 eye muscle depth.
Teakle Hill stud principal Bronte Gregurke said most buyers were repeat clients, but there were three new clients from Port Neil, Tumby Bay and Coffin Bay.
“We were pleased with the sale, it wasn’t a total clearance, but with the way the year went, we couldn’t expect any more,” he said.
“It was our 12th annual sale with many return buyers so we must be putting out the rams that our clients want.”
Mr Gregurke said the rams sold featured a mix of Bundara Downs, Glenarbian and Wingamin bloodlines.
Volume buyers included CD Watson & Co, Tooligie, who bought nine rams averaging $1111, while BM&EM Mickan, Cummins, also bought nine averaging $9800.
St Claude Graziers, Kimba, bought four averaging $950 and CE&J Schumann, Cowell, took three averaging $1200.
Landmark Tumby Bay livestock account manager Justin Thompson said there were some well bred, well priced rams which had “come on well” in the six weeks prior to the sale, despite dry conditions.
“The rams had good growth rates and some good length,” he said.
Landmark conducted the sale with stud stock agent Gordon Wood taking bids.
