THEY have entered sections of their cropping production into the Royal Adelaide Show for the past 20 years, but this year all eyes were on the Lienert family’s wheat exhibit.
Eldin and Kym Lienert, Sheaoak Log, were awarded grand champion wheat, champion pulse and champion biscuit or APW/ASW wheat at the grains and fodder presentation.
Edlin, now retired, said winning gave them “one hell of a thrill”.
“You know you’re producing some good quality products, and hopefully we will learn by our experiences,” he said.
Kym and his wife Robyn currently run the opperation and crop about 700 hectares of peas, lentils, wheat, barley and canola.
The wheat judges, including SARDI’s Chris Stone andRob Wheeler along with AGT’s Stuart Milde, highlighted the prominence of premium quality hard wheat varieties submitted this year.
For the first time, almost all entries comprised of just two varieties – Mace and Scepter.
The judges said the champion wheat sample came from the premium hard class and had excellent test weight and plumpness, and was of high milling yield and good protein.
