Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin will use a business delegation to Singapore this week to promote the Burdekin and to gain key insights into emerging opportunities for export and investment.
The delegation of North Queensland community and business leaders is being led by Townsville Enterprise to connect local businesses with decision makers and industry in this vital Southeast Asian market.
“The Singapore Delegation provides an excellent opportunity to promote the Townsville and North Queensland region as a diverse destination offering rich agricultural land, natural wonders and outback and city living with world class infrastructure for health, education and transport,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“The delegation gives me a rare opportunity to network and connect with key industry leaders. It is an ideal opportunity to promote Burdekin products and businesses to Singaporean companies.”
The delegation, from Monday 4 September to Friday 8 September, will consist of a conference program and industry engagement sessions that will assist North Queensland businesses to connect with Singaporean decision makers.
Industry streams covered across the delegation include Agriculture; Aquaculture; Connectivity; Supply Chains and Logistics; Innovation; Emerging Industries and Health; Tourism, Sports and Events; Urban Renewal; and Property and Investment.
“As the Australian Government strengthens its developing relationship with Singapore, it presents an immense opportunity for Burdekin businesses in a range of sectors,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“Burdekin Shire Council wants to gain a further understanding of the Singapore market dynamics including price, volumes, quality, seasonality and supply chains for key target markets and products. It is also essential to further understand what level local Burdekin businesses need to be at to be export ready to access this market.”
