RED POLL
It was a clean sweep of Red Poll broad ribbons for Jamestown stud, Moyle Park, with judge, Tim Lord, Bowral, impressed with the breeder’s attention to producing well structured cattle.
Grand and junior champion bull was won by 18-month-old Moyle Park Pemberton, led by Cassy Poulton, Jamestown, and exhibited by RWR&KI Daley, Moyle Park Red Polls, Jamestown.
Sired by M.P Zepplin and out of M.P Wain 2, it won its class bull, 16 months and under 20 months.
It weighed 505 kilograms and had an 86-square centimetre eye muscle area, a four millimetre rib fat and 4mm rump.
Moyle Park stud principal Richard Daley said he expected Moyle Park Pemberton to place in the top titles because of its sire’s performance.
“Moyle Park Zepplin won Battle of the Bulls four years ago at Toowoomba against 31 breeds,” Mr Daley said.
“He was four years old and weighed 1100kgs with a 152sqcm EMA,” he said.
“The bull will be exchanged with a Western Australian stud’s bull this year because we both follow breed plan figures closely.
“We have been trying to find a herd improver from studs across Australia and it has been hard – this bull will make a good swap to combat that.”
Mr Lord said Moyle Park Pemberton was heavier for weight for age and had more muscle.
“It was well structured, and naturally wider and thicker – these are the traits I could tell the breeder was focused on,” he said.
The grand and junior champion female title was sashed to 18-month-old Moyle Park Lexi 4, Moyle Park, led by Cassy Poulton.
Also sired by M.P Zepplin and out of M.P Lexi, the grand champion female won its class cow or heifer, 16 months and under 20 months.
Mr Daley said Moyle Park Lexi 4 was an example of the feminine females he is focused on breeding.
Mr Lord agreed and said it had a natural stance and femininity,” he said.
