INVESTING in interstate genetics has paid off for Knockando Beef Cattle, Cowirra, winning grand champion Brahman bull and female with entries sired by Rathlyn Dunlop 10794.
Judge Neil Watson, Watasanta Santa Gertrudis stud, Tamworth, NSW, said the grand champions – exhibited by Knockando after being bred by Coliana Brahmans, Tenterfield, NSW – were a good representation of the breed.
Mr Watson said the top title bull winner, Coliana Orlando Manso, “packed growth and bone”.
The 15-month-old, out of Coliana Lady Grey Manso, weighed 440 kilograms and had a 71-square centimetre eye muscle area, three-millimetre rib fat and 5mm rump.
“It’s only a young bull but it had the growth and most importantly, more than the senior bull it came up against, it had the fertility traits,” Mr Watson said.
He selected Knockando’s Coliana Nina P as his grand and senior champion female, while BT Illusion 94, from Eclipse Brahmans, Balaklava, was junior champion female.
Fellow Knockando entry GTM Napoleon S was named senior champion bull.
