Heavy steers made 253c, while heifers topped 250c at the August 17 Roma prime sale.

Cattle were of fair to good quality at Roma's prime sale, however cows were generally lighter than previous weeks as oat supplies deteriorate.

A total yarding of 1201 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s prime sale on August 17.

Steers over 550kg sold to 253c/kg and averaged 247c, while steers in the 400-550kg sold to 240c, averaging 233c.

A Roberts, Tantatton, Wallumbilla, sold Blonde D'Aquitaine cross steers for 253c at 663kg returning $1679/head.

N&B York, Yorkaringa, Wallumbilla, sold Hereford steers for 252c at 672kg returning $1694. The Hereford heifers sold for 250c at 449kg returning $1122.

A&M Sharp, Anchorbar, Wandoan, sold Brahman cross steers for 252c at 607kg returning $1531.

L&M Price, Mt. Hope, Wallumbilla, sold Droughtmaster steers for 250c at 619kg returning $1549.

Edenhope, Edenhope, Roma, sold Charolais cross steers for 250c at 655kg returning $1638. The Santa cross cows went for 185c at 639kg returning $1182.

G&T Nielsen, Mt Weribone, Surat, sold Santa cross steers for 248c at 660kg returning $1640.

Heifers over 450kg made to 234c and averaged 213c, heifers in the 350-450kg sold to 250c, averaging 230c.

Cows over 500kg peaked at 203c and averaged 188c, while cows in the 400-500kg class topped at 193c and averaged 176c. Cows 300-400kg sold to 183c and averaged 126c.

W&K Freeman, Meeleebee, Wallumbilla, sold crossbred cows for 202c at 678kg returning $1370. The Santa cross bulls went for 235c at 863kg returning $2030.

Stinson Pastoral Co, Hillyview, Amby, sold Charolais cross cows for 190c at 695kg returning $1322.

Bulls over 600kg earned to 250c and averaged 216c.
