DELOSHANDA stud has reached a new sale record, with a Merino ram attracting a $6200 bid from repeat buyer Rhett Morrow, Darke Peake, at its Kielpa sale on Monday.
Stud co-principal Damien Macgowan described the ram as being big, deep and square, carrying a bright, long staple medium wool.
The 107.5-kilogram ram had fleece measurements of 20.4 micron, 3.2 standard deviation, 15.8 coefficient of variation, 99.6 per cent comfort factor.
The Macgowans offered and sold 24 Merino rams, averaging $1775, and 24 Poll Merino rams, averaging $1505. Overall, the 48 rams averaged $1639 – an increase of $182 on last year – with the top price double that of 2016.
“We are extremely pleased with the full clearance of this year’s offering and with the top price ram far exceeding our expectations,” Mr Macgowan said.
