ALLALA Poll Merino stud offering 10 extra rams during their 14th on-property sale at Kapinnie on Friday paid off with an increased average of $178 on last year’s sale.
Overall, 88 of 89 rams sold for a $1560 average, with the one ram passed in sold shortly after the auction.
Aaron and Chris Watson, Tooligie, bought the top price ram at $4000.
The 14-month-old weighed 105 kilograms and had fleece measurements of 19.8 micron, 99.1 per cent comfort factor, 3.5 standard deviation, 17.7 coefficient of variation and a huge 42-millimetre eye muscle depth.
Aaron Watson called the ram a “good all-rounder”.
"The main thing was its massive staple length, good crimp and its back end was very correct," he said.
The Watsons, who run 8000 sheep, will use the ram on Merino maiden ewes in its first year.
They also bought the second highest price ram at $3400 and another for $2600, averaging $3333 for the three rams.
MA&GE Zerk, Lock, were volume buyers on the day with 12 rams to $2100, averaging $1508.
GA Jolly & Sons, Karkoo, bought bought the first ram in the auction at $2600 and bought eight rams to $3100, averaging $2400.
Landmark and Elders conducted the sale.
