THE success of PIRSA’s 90-day Transport Project was among items discussed at the Livestock & Rural Transporters Association of SA annual conference in Adelaide at the weekend.
LRTASA vice-president Scott Quinn praised the work of Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan and his advisers, who had greatly improved productivity and access for both primary producers and transport operators.
“We are finally catching up with the other states in regards to access and combinations, but we still have a long way to go,” he said.
Among these changes were introducing tri-axle dollys, quad road trains north of Port Augusta and giving 30-metre road trains access to the Yorke Peninsula and various other routes.
Quad road train access from Port Augusta to the SA-NT border had also been a huge benefit to the livestock industry.
“The quads can be reconfigured to two B-trains at Port Augusta and continue to the south to various locations in SA and Vic without the need for any cross loading,” he said.
Mr Quinn said there was still more “last mile issues” to be resolved from applications for the 90-day project version two, which closed last month.
