THE dry start to the 2017 cropping season will be an added focus at a forum for graingrowers at Cleve on Thursday, June 22.
The GRDC Local Forum, which will enable growers and other grains industry stakeholders to contribute to shaping future research, development and extension for the important issues which affect the profitability of growers, will now be followed by a session dedicated to helping local growers extract the most out of the 2017 cropping season, despite the dry start.
The GRDC Local Forum at the Cleve Golf Club will be from 9am to 12.30pm.
Following lunch, a two-hour session from 1.30pm will centre on growers maximising returns through informed decision-making in light of the lack of growing season rainfall.
This session will be an abridged version of dry start forums at Wudinna and Cummins – GRDC investments that have been supported by the Eyre Peninsula Agricultural Research Foundation, the Lower Eyre Agricultural Development Association, and PIRSA.
The GRDC’s Southern Regional Cropping Solutions Network is hosting the interactive RD&E forum which Southern RCSN co-ordinator Jen Lillecrapp says will allow growers to engage directly with GRDC staff and members of the RCSN and GRDC Southern Panel.
“The Local Forum – one of six being held in SA and Vic – will provide those attending with a snapshot of key GRDC investments which are assisting to address important issues for growers, as identified by the RCSN,” she said.
“The forum will also be an opportunity for growers and industry representatives to learn more about and discuss with leading researchers future RD&E for locally important issues, such as invertebrate pests and insecticide resistance, as well as herbicide resistance and weed management.”
Growers and other industry personnel are encouraged to register their attendance for the forum.
