Vic-based Sea Crest Fold claimed the champion double at the Australian Highland Cattle Society 2017 National Show at the Mount Pleasant Showground on the weekend.
It is only the fifth time in 26 years of the event that the same owners have won both tartan broad ribbons.
Three-year-old Sona Pollach of Sea Crest rose to the top from 42 entries from 13 SA, Vic and NSW folds to be supreme exhibit and grand champion female.
It was the junior champion female the last time the show was held in SA in 2015.
Its five-month-old heifer calf was sired by grand champion bull Dougal Brogarth of Sea Crest.
Bronwyn Stewart, Flinders, Mornington Peninsula, Vic, who has been breeding and showing Highland cattle for 11 years, described it as a “once in a lifetime” moment.
“I drove the 12 hours not expecting to be among the big prizes with record entries, but just to be part of the show and support the breed,” she said.
Ms Stewart, who is a naturopath, runs 50 to 60 Highland cattle and says she “adores the rare Scottish heritage breed”.
“They don’t get diseases like other breeds and calve easily,” she said.
“They handle the harsh winters here – they face into the wind and look in their element.”
The judge was Ormsay Estate general manager Archie McArthur, from Argyll in western Scotland, who oversees three top folds.
