EXTRACTING the most out of the 2017 cropping season, despite the dry start, will be the focus of two forums on Eyre Peninsula this Thursday and Friday.
A GRDC investment, activated in response to the lack of growing season rainfall so far this year, the forums will be at Wudinna this Thursday, June 15, and Cummins on Friday, June 16.
Supported by the EP Agricultural Research Foundation, the Lower Eyre Agricultural Development Association, and PIRSA and its SARDI division, the forums are designed to support graingrowers seeking to maximise returns and profits in 2017.
The interactive forums will feature a line-up of expert speakers from throughout SA and interstate, who will provide advice and insights on topics such as the seasonal outlook; local yield prediction scenarios; crop growth in dry and cold conditions; the risk of heat and frost impacts based on sowing time; and livestock options.
A panel session will discuss the present situation and the various strategies growers can employ to reduce the financial impact of a dry start.
The forums will be at the Wudinna Community Club on Thursday from 1.30pm-5.30pm, followed by networking and refreshments, and the Cummins Bowls Club on Friday from 9am-1pm, followed by lunch.
