Heifers to $1230
A smaller crowd turned out for the feature cattle sale at Strathalbyn on Friday, to witness prices fall back on the previous market.
Elders Strathalbyn branch manager Danny Reynolds said steers were back 20 cents a kilogram across the board and heifers back 30-40c/kg, to fall in line with recent prime markets.
The sale’s top price per head of $1340 went to BJ&KLM Fischer, Meningie, who sold the second pen of the day – 10 April/May 2016-drop 380kg Angus steer weaners.
The Fischers sold a second pen of 10 Angus steers, 345kg, at $1270 or $3.68/kg.
Taurawaye Farms, Willunga, sold five Hereford steers, 369kg, at $1320 or $3.58/kg, while FO&VJ Hooper, Tintinara, sold eight May/June 2016-drop Angus steers, 374kg, at $1300 or $3.48/kg.
Large West Coast vendors BL,CA,EB&PH Stringer sold 14 August/September-drop Murray Grey-cross weaner steers, 330kg, at $1260 or $3.82/kg to Thomas Foods International, while a second pen of 15 of the same, 305kg, made $1160 or $3.80/kg to Landmark Loxton.
The Stringers also sold heifers, with six at 314kg making $1040 or $3.31/kg, 17 at 301kg making $1060 or $3.52/kg, and 10 at 295kg making $1050 or $3.56/kg.
Lighter steers again made the highest per kg prices.
WL Angove, Ashbourne, sold 11 August/September-drop Angus steers, 250kg, at $1140 or $4.56/kg, MR Walsh, Kangaroo Island, sold 19 Angus steers, 251kg, at $1130 or $4.50/kg, while DW&SB Altschwager, Verdun, had five Angus steers, 274kg, make $1200 or $4.38/kg.
Heifers sold to $1230 for 16 Angus, 344kg, from HG Thompson, Yorke Peninsula, which equated to $3.58/kg.
CK&GK Grady, Macclesfield, sold seven Murray Grey heifers, 293kg, at $1050 or $4.15/kg.
With their Harewood property sold, EC Phillipson & Co, Meadows, offered Angus and Murray Grey heifers.
Their 14, 2015-drop Murray Greys, 403kg, made $1150 or $2.85/kg; 12 May/June 2016-drop Angus, 397kg, made $1150 or $2.90/kg; 15 Angus, 270kg, made $920 or $3.41/kg and 10 Murray Greys, 271kg, made $910 or $3.36/kg.
Two pens of in-calf females were also offered.
Codgers Creek Cattle Co, Mount Pleasant, sold seven Poll Hereford and black baldy heifers, seven months in-calf to a Poll Hereford bull, at $1100, while SR&SM Mason & Sons, Lobethal, sold eight Murray Grey-cross 6-8-year-old cows, run with an Angus bull, at $1820.
Buying support came from the Adelaide Hills, South East, Riverland and Fleurieu and Yorke peninsulas.
