IT was standing room only in the cattle ring at the Mount Pleasant market.
Landmark Fawcett principal Colin Fawcett, Mount Pleasant, said a herd dispersal, combined with strong interest in the cattle job, attracted bidders from the Riverland, South East and locally.
He said the yarding was larger than typically seen at this time of year, with cattle, sheep and lambs all selling well.
As part of the dispersal of R&C Andrews, Springton, eight Hereford cows with calves at-foot sold at $2460.
A run of four cows with heifer CAF sold at $2300, while six cows with steer CAF sold at $2280. A further four cows, pregnancy-tested in-calf to a Morganvale bull, sold at $1660.
The tops of the heifer drop sold to $1240, while a second run made $1220.
A six-year-old Morganvale bull sold for $2300.
Three Red Angus cows with CAF from C Highet, Harrogate, sold at $1500.
Rondenella, Mount Torrens, sold an Angus steer at $1700, while K&C James, Mount Pleasant, sold a Hereford steer at $1600.
Mr Fawcett said there were a number of good store cattle at outstanding prices.
“Most store and light trade steers and heifers sold between $900 and $1400,” he said.
In the sheep sale, Mr Fawcett said the price of mutton was a standout, while store lambs were also keenly sought.
R Randell, Mount McKenzie, sold 22 wethers at $162.
Seven wethers from MM Checker, Kersbrook, sold at $160.
I&S Koch, Moculta, sold 19 ewes at $150.
Neina Hill, Murray Bridge, sold six ewes at $150 and 18 freshly-shorn ewes at $148.
RG Lindner, Lyndoch, sold 17 crossbred lambs at $172, bought by Australian Lamb Company.
ALC also bought 39 lambs from L Tziros, Mount Pleasant, at $161.
Sonntag Brothers, Tanunda, sold 24 lambs at $160 to Thomas Foods International.
The next sale is on June 8.
