RECENT rain has been patchy across SA, with some areas receiving record amounts, while parts of the Lower EP, central Yorke Peninsula and Mid North have had hardly any.
Ag Consulting Co agronomist Stefan Schmitt, Port Broughton, said central YP croppers were still seeding.
“Parts of the Curramulka and Minlaton districts have missed out on opening rains,” he said. “But many are dry sowing still hoping for a good break to the season.”
Mark Pahl farms in the Murray Bridge district and said recent rain had been variable across his properties, from 15mm at Pallamana to 45mm at Caloote.
“Moisture at Pallamana is almost gone, while there is still a bit left near Caloote,” he said. “But we are starting to struggle with moisture. We’re looking for another 5-10mm soon to help us along.”
Mr Pahl started seeding near Anzac Day and was onto cereals this week in wetter country.
“But we may have to pull up until more rain appears,” he said.
